Dave Brubeck...

We’ve shot most of the documentary's interviews with a possible re-shoot day with Gretchen and a shoot day at the jazz festival in the works. Our planned trip to shoot Kevin Eubanks at the Baked Potato in L.A. got changed; now we’re going to shoot him when he comes to Detroit for the festival. This will help us with the Michigan film credit, but it’ll add new complexity to our shoot. You know, large festival crowds, multi-cameras and all the other stuff not yet thought of.

Now we come to Dave Brubeck. Dave is an American jazz pianist, writer of a number of jazz standards, including "In Your Own Sweet Way" and "The Duke", and is most noted for the legendary jazz tune “Take Five”. Okay, Dave wanted to do the documentary - he loves Gretchen - but we had to wait for his schedule to clear. So, the plan was to go to the New York area and shoot Dave then pickup two more interviews while we were there. That would be great - Dave being in the doc would take it to another level, and the other two interviews would add much needed conflict. Our plan is set, so, when Dave’s contact person finally calls, we are excited - only to find out that Dave can’t participate.

Okay, no Dave Brubeck. But I still want the other two interviews in New York. Of course, there's no New York money, so now what? So, I need to meet with the producers and come up with a plan. Yeah, that’s what we need, a plan.
