Ok, I love the Smile project’s producing staff.  Yesterday I was talking to one of the producers (Alisa) and we were going over some things when she made a remark about the Christian McBride shoot on Monday.  And I said, “I didn’t know any of that,” and she said, “Yeah, that all happened."

Ok, here’s what happened.  Mind you, I got it secondhand, but this is what I understand.  I’ve been reminding the producers I wanted Christian to play after his interview and enquiring if he has agreed to play, with no response from Christian’s camp.  So I assumed that he would do it.  

Then I hear that Alisa got an email this Friday night about 11:00PM saying that Christian would need a bass to play on Monday.  Now, did I say that we’re talking about an upright bass, you know the big one that stands next to you?  How do you find a bass on Friday night for a Monday morning shoot?  Now if I was producing, I would wait until Saturday morning to start calling, but not this bunch.  They calling started emailing and whatever else they did and finally found a guy who has an electric bass and a classic upright from the 50’s, jackpot.  And all he wanted was to talk to Christian - done deal.

Now, I’m hearing this all for the first time after the problem has been solved, and I said, “Great job.”  Then I asked, “Is he going to bring his electric bass also?” and my producer hung up on me.  I guess that was the wrong thing to say.
