29.97 frames

So we had our first major hiccup today.  When we started the Smile project the idea was to shoot the video in 16 x 9, 24p mode. Why you ask? Well mostly because I like the look.  16 x 9 refers to the shape of the frame. It’s closer to how the eye sees things and much closer to how movies look.  24p refers to a video format that operates at 24 frames per second or typically, 23.976 frame/second. This frame rate mimics film motion.   So here’s where the problem comes in.  Somehow we went out to California and shot all of our interviews at 30 frames or 29.97 frames per second, when we shot all of the Detroit stuff at 24p, that’s bad. Now how I know it is bad is hearing the editor scream, “IT’S IN 29.97!” To what I replied “WHAT?” “HE SHOT ALL OF THIS AT 30 FRAMES?”

Now, I was already having a bad day. I haven’t been feeling well and I’ve agreed to do several projects that I really didn’t what to. So, my reply to Elie, the editor, as always, was, “You can fix it.” He grumbled then started playing with the timeline and after a little while he fixed it. Good job Elie.
