Smile Project: Shooting Gretchen
Now, I haven’t been inside Cadieux Stage for a while and it turns out the crew hadn't either. But I love the building and its decor. It turns out it was built as a movie studio in 1937 with an addition in the early 1950s. The building is somewhat run down but I enjoyed being there.
The only real interesting thing that happened was our endless tinkering with Gretchen’s background. I initially thought that we would shoot Gretchen in limbo, just her lit well in front of a black background. But when we got to the stage I remembered I told the stage manager that TV gray would be alright for the cyc wall color, mistake.
So, we thought that we would just shoot her in white limbo. Lon started lighting and it looked pretty good, but one thing, the floor needed painting and we didn’t have the paint or much time.
Brian found some black drape in the next studio, but nothing to hang it with. We looked around some more and I think it was Dan or Dave that found a large something, that we could hang the drape on. We did, and it worked, so Lon started relighting the shot. It looked great.
Thanks everyone
