What does Bruce Harper and Sting have in common?

So the day started pretty well, we arrived at the Dirty Dog Cafe at 7:45ish and started the drag-in and setup.  Now, for me production and on time never go together, but, for now, we are.  We picked a shot, set camera and lights and were ready to go.  Curtis Gough, the guy that we’re renting the upright base from, arrived on time and he said “can I meet Christian McBride” I said “no problem”.

Christian arrives on time, he’s cool and ready to go.  We did the interview and it went well; after the interview Christian played.  We did a lighting reset for Christian’s performance, and, although we agreed on the shot, I didn’t look at it while the shot was being set.  So, we’re ready to go, I walk up to Christian and say, “Christian, I need you to play only Mack Avenue stuff,” and he said, “I’ll just improvise something.”  Ok.

I go back to my seat and look at the shot - and I didn’t like it.  Christian is ready, the crew is ready, and I didn’t like the shot.  Now, it’s not like I hated it, I just wasn’t in love with it, but I thought like a producer, we need to stay on time.  So we go, he played and it was great.

After his performance Christian says that the action on the bass was tight and asked Curtis to play for him.  He did and it was great; what a thrill for him  Way to go, Christian.

After the shoot we wrapped and headed for lunch when Christian says he wants to have lunch with us - great!

So what do Bruce Harper and Sting have in common?  They’ve both had lunch with Christian McBride.
